Should I sign a lawyer's opinion letter? Last time I didn't have to. Plus, I'm not in a position to verify some of his statements.
The company's Pink Sheet listed on OTC. Last time my group was issued stock (same company), it had just gone non-reporting. That stock was stamped & this stock is supposed to be free trading because the purchase was made over a year ago without any certs being issued. I'm concerned about shady deals, but really want these certs so we can sell. The lawyer's signature wasn't even on the document. The document was not on legal paper & the only thing on the second page was room for my signature.

You should have the client certify the facts to you in writing and get back up documents for your files. Check the ABA rules on legal opinions and write the opinion letter carefully.

Why would anyone other than the lawyer rendering an opinion sign it?

If you are an attorney, you need backup for every fact in the opinion letter. If you are not an attorney, you should not be signing it and the lawyer should.

If you are not a lawyer under NO CIRCUMSTANCE should you act as one - it could be a crime. If you are, you need to have lawyer's agreement in place with OTC Markets, as well as providing a lawyer's letter with each OTC filing. OTC Markets' website has the forms.
