Mason Boswell focuses his practice on patent procurement and opinions. He has experience drafting and prosecuting patents before the United States Patent and Trademark Office related to computers, software, electronics, the Internet, and business methods. Mason Boswell has also written noninfringement, invalidity, and freedom to operate opinions. In addition, Mason Boswell is an inventor himself (e.g., U.S. Patent No. 7,072,973 - Data Transmission Using Common Sliding Window).
Mason Boswell was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1976. Identified early as a strong student, he was moved into an experimental public gifted education program called Creative Learning in a Unique Environment (CLUE), which spurred his interest in science and learning. Boswell moved to South Carolina in 1988, where he attended Irmo Middle School. In 1989, he carried the school's science team to victory in the National Science Olympiad in Boulder, CO, winning in three events. He then attended Irmo/Dutch Fork High School for two years and in 1993 entered college at the age of 16 as one of 30 students selected for the University of Southern California's Resident Honors Program. In 1994, he was selected as one of two National Merit Scholars from South Carolina.
After completing his Bachelor's Degree, Mason Boswell returned to South Carolina in 1997 and completed his Master's Degree eight months later at the University of South Carolina. Then 21, he moved to Seattle to work for Microsoft as a software design engineer. In 2001, Boswell decided to apply his technical skills in new ways and began attending law school at night while working at Microsoft full-time in the day. He graduated in 2004 in the top 20% of his law school class, and began working as a patent attorney for Perkins Coie, at the time the largest law firm in the Pacific Northwest. Having an untapped entrepreneurial spirit and wanting to offer software patent clients unparalleled service, Mason Boswell founded Boswell IP Law in 2008. Boswell and his family reside in Seattle.
