As business legal counsel to start-ups through middle market companies, Mr. Hubbard helps navigate each client through the intersection of opportunities, risks, law, taxes and business—as well as the emotional responses to these challenges. His business legal counsel may include: serving as outside general business legal counsel, helping to provide leadership and sound counsel in key business decisions, and representing clients in implementing needed actions.
Bill Hubbard has over 29 years of experience helping businesses and their owners, establishing Hubbard Business Counsel in 1997, after previously having been a partner in two large Chicago law firms.
He served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army in Berlin and as an Army prosecutor in Augsburg, Germany. He is admitted to practice law in the State of Illinois and is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Illinois CPA Society, the Association for Corporate Growth, and the Midwest Business Brokers and Intermediaries Association. He has been a chairman of the Illinois CPA Society Mergers and Acquisitions Special Interest Group Task Force and the Chicago Bar Association Business Law Mergers and Acquisitions Sub-committee. He is a former Director and Past President of the West Point Society of Chicago.
Bill was recognized as one of Illinois’ Closely Held Business and Mergers and Acquisitions “SuperLawyers” by Law and Politics Magazine in connection with Chicago Magazine.
Bill is a past presenter (or panelist) for courses sponsored by the International Business Brokers Association, the Illinois CPA Society, the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE), the Midwest Business Brokers and Intermediaries Association, Certified Merger and Acquisition Advisor (TM) certification course, and the CPA Club. He is co-author of the chapter on Illinois/Delaware/Nevada corporations in an Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education Handbook, and he wrote two chapters in Mergers and Acquisitions Handbook for Small and Midsize Companies, edited by West and Jones (New York: Wiley, 1997), and the chapter on Limited Liability Company Management Structures (for IICLE).
He graduated from West Point (B.S., 1973), and the Illinois Institute of Technology/Chicago-Kent College of Law (J.D., with high honors,1978) and also obtained an Illinois CPA certificate. He lives in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago.
