Facebook (and other forms of social media) can be a great way for small businesses to market themselves. However, these sites have Terms of Service, and on Facebook, for example, a profile which violates these Terms of Service can be deleted, which obviously wipes out the time and money which went into that segment of the business's online marketing campaign.
Elizabeth Lewis wrote a blog post based around this issue. The bigger issue than a merely deleted profile, to Ms. Lewis, is that some online marketing consultants will knowingly engage in behavior which, while effective in the short-term, can actually hurt their clients' online presence in the long-term.
