This article takes issue with an article by the U.S. Small Business Administration ("SBA") called Follow These Steps to Starting a Business. Although the SBA's piece did provide many useful suggestions, the critique of it put forth by this article is simple: the SBA failed to consider intellectual property protection, and because intellectual property (whether copyrights, patents, or trademarks) is so valuable and important to so many businesses, this is a significant omission by the SBA.
