Lawyer fees for contested, non-routine litigation

February 18, 2011

I handle contested, non-routine litigation, which is rarely handled for a flat or even estimated fee.  Contested non-routine litigation is by its nature open-ended, and its costs are virtually impossible to estimate without estimating too high to include the worst possible scenario. It would be thus unfair and untrue to say something like "the cost to handle your $1,000,000 breach of contract case, and any associated counterclaims and third-party claims, including whatever discovery and motions the defendants and third-party defendants choose to take and file, will be about $100,000."  The most appropriate way to describe my fees is by the billing method.
