The Megaupload copyright infringement lawsuit resurrected awareness of the possibility of jail time for copyright infringement. Recently, graphic artist Shepard Fairey also was sentenced to jail time in connection with a copyright infringement lawsuit. As this article explains, however, Mr. Fairey's jail time was for a much better-known crime: falsifying information during discovery in a civil litigation.
